Inside a PERFECTLY DECORATED 17th CENTURY ENGLISH COUNTRY HOUSE B&B

[Music] This weekend Jörg and I travelled to West
Somerset and are staying in a perfectly English decorated Country House Bed and Breakfast
from the 17th century. We are here in Exmoor's National Park, very close to the medieval
village Dunster. And this house has five glorious bedrooms and we are so happy that we can share
all of them.

Yes and I'm quite sure you will enjoy the tour. Now this is our room and it's
called Lorna Doone Suite. So Lorna Doone is actually a novel first published in 1869 I
believe by the English author R.D. Blackmore. We do have the book here and it's about a
farmer who falls in love with the with the 'queen' of the Doone Clan who he has sworn
vengeance on. And it's all set on Exmoor. This room is also called honeymoon suite.
It's very bright. The fabrics are amazing. Fabrics are by GP & J Baker.

In case you don't
know the brand do have a look because it's absolutely amazing. I can spend hours on that
website. And the wall colour is 'Setting Plaster' from Farrow and Ball. And we have such a gorgeous
mural here as well. That looks so nice. This house is from 1690
so it's pretty old and you can see it has gorgeous sash windows. We also have so much
storage space here. It's amazing. And here is a cast iron hob grate with Delft
tiles. We have a tea and coffee station. Already enjoyed a cuppa. I must admit I also enjoyed a couple of gluten-free
shortbread biscuits. There are some for Jörg. And here is our
bathroom. With a wonderful view into the countryside.
We might go for a walk later. Hopefully it stays dry. We always love a gorgeous country
house Bed and Breakfast and as always I found it by browsing the web so Jörg and I think
we simply have to share because it's absolutely glorious. And the name of this place couldn't
be more appropriate. The house is called The Great House.

It's as simple as that. And Sheila
and Bruce the owners they actually won an award that I just need to share that as well.
Plastic free champions so they try to reduce single-use plastic as much as possible. And
you don't really find packaging in the rooms or anywhere else. It's really really great.
If they use plastic they make sure that it is recyclable so that's definitely worth mentioning
as well. And from the hallway we borrowed a gorgeous coffee table book. This is actually
a book that I wanted to get my hands on. It's called 'The Colourful Past: Edward Bulmer
and the English Country House. And as you know we do have a lot of Edward Bulmer paint
in our Victorian Terrace House and couldn't recommend it any more highly.

And this looks
like such a great book so I'll have a browse tonight and can't wait. We're actually quite
lucky because some guests left this morning and we can show you the Dunkery Suite opposite of our room. This room has the best view of
views into the village Timberscombe and towards Dunkery Beacon which you can see in the far
distance and that's the highest summit here on Exmoor. It's a very bright and airy room
with GP & J Baker fabrics. The wall colour is 'Dimpse' from Farrow & Ball. It goes really really well together. And the
fireplace has gorgeous Delft tiles. And that's the very same fabric as in the
headboard. Okay, let's go into the family room and I
only had a short glimpse five minutes ago.

I must admit seeing this in person this is
my ultimate favourite room. You can probably hear the church bells so
this couldn't be more perfect. Now in this room you also find fat breaks
from GP & J Baker + Thibaut. And we have this wonderful uh, I think it's called 'Circus'
wallpaper from Thibaut. I will double check and link it for you down below in our guest
bedroom and we love Thibaut so much. And yeah, GP & J Baker is just absolutely wonderful.
And on the walls you find Farrow & Ball of course again and it's 'Old White'. The bathroom is gorgeous. Look at the tub. And you know what's really funny? Usually
I don't really like green tiles but I love those. That works so perfectly with the tub. Look at this room. How wonderful but that's
not all of it. I mean it's called family room so there must
be more. There are actually three bunk beds. Look. So this room is for five people.

I can't believe it we have sun today. Finally!
How wonderful. Books for children. I'm so in love with this room like the moment
I stepped, I mean our room is absolutely gorgeous. I love it so much. This room is like I have
no words. It's just so like the moment you step inside you just feel 'wow'. Such great color combinations. I hope you like it.

I love the blue curtains as well. Also have
a look at the lamp stand. That's a clarinet. I've never seen something like that. How lucky
are? We we can show you all five rooms and give you a tour. So before we continue I want
to introduce to you the sponsor of today's video which couldn't have come at a better
time because being a full-time YouTuber there are so many things that are quite challenging
for me. Like trying to run all aspects that come with the business side of it can be quite
hard. And this is how I stumble upon Skillshare. Now Skillshare is this amazing online learning
platform where you can explore a huge variety of classes. For example you can take a class
in how to write a script for your videos which I find so helpful or learn how to live happier
and healthier or learn how to be better at time management.

So the list is endless. And
being self-employed I must admit that I do struggle with productivity at times or how
I can really focus on my goals. And I found this wonderful class by Thomas Frank called
'Real Productivity: How to build habits that last'. And this class showed me how I can
really create habits and basically integrate them into my daily routine and achieve my
personal goals.

I so need that. Thomas explains everything in such a clear and simple way
that it is made easy for everyone to just start and get going. It's so important for
me because I can be so chaotic. There are so many incredible classes that will help
you to learn a new skill or simply start a new side project and I have a great offer
for you today.

So if you would like to join Skillshare the first thousand people that
will use the link in the description box of today's video will get a full monthly trial
of Skillshare. Have a browse, I'm sure you will find something. The next thing on my
list is a Pilates class because I've always wanted to learn it and I want to be able to
do it at home so I can't wait for that. And now let's continue with the video. This here
is the Luttrell Suite. Let's have a look. This is the most exclusive room in the house
and as you can see it's quite masculine. It has gilded wooden panelling. The green
is Farrow & Ball 'Cake Green'.

Looks quite lush with the red. Tea and coffee station as always. Gorgeous
fireplace. I do love the artwork in here. We have books. What are they? 'The story of
civilization: The Renaissance'. That's great. And we have William Shakespeare. I don't know who that is but uh, I I love
it. There's a mural. Very nice. I mean who doesn't love a full poster? There's the bathroom. that looks pretty much
the same as ours. Yes, that's the very same style. Really really nice. Such a nice room as well.
I mean all of the five rooms are so nice and different but every room has its own charm.
So there's one more room that we're can share with you because it's still not occupied.
It will be tonight. So every room here is called 'Suit' because they are quite spacious
and this is the dance to Suite.

Dunster from the medieval village just around the corner.
So what Sheila told us yesterday is that this very very beautiful marble fireplace was hidden
behind the wall. It was covered up. And they've only discovered it quite recently. And look
at the beauty especially with the Delft tiles. I love Delft tiles so much. And they are very
expensive and precious so that's such a gorgeous feature. Now this room is on the ground floor
and the wall colour is from Farrow & Ball and it's called 'Mizzle'. I love the shade.
It's very very elegant I think. And here is the bathroom with black and white
tiles just as in our room. I always love black and white tiles.

They are so timeless. And when I saw that might sound funny but
we always get questions like if we get inspired by the places we stay at. And we do. So our
bathroom still needs to be redecorated and it it's not the biggest bathroom. It's bigger
than this one but um, actually when I saw the sink here that would be a great size for
our bathroom because I like the style. It's very traditional and yeah, so that's an idea
for us. Lots of antique furniture. [Music] Okay, let me show you the dining room. It's so bright and cheerful in here. So the
wall colour again is Farrow & Ball and it's 'Dayroom Yellow'. It fits this room so perfectly.
It's a typical Chinoiserie theme that was very popular in the Regency period although
the fireplace is actually Victorian which I spotted yesterday right away because you
can see the Dunster Suite opposite has this grand fireplace and this is more plain but
also very beautiful. I had to check the name of the gorgeous china.
This is, so the name of this is 'Royal Standard'.

Haven't heard of that before but I love it.
Very elegant and quirky at the same time. I love the murals on the wall. This china is actually my favourite. Royal
Albert. I do love the colour combination. Sorry that's
the floor and my shoes. So we're having breakfast in this gorgeous
yellow dining room. Yeah. Good morning. Jörg is having Müsli with yogurt and this porridge
with well, obviously banana and locally sourced honey. [Music] We just had afternoon tea here at The Great
House and it was so good. Mine was gluten-free and the scone was amazing. How did you like
yours? Really good. Thumbs up. Yes. Down here is the Club Lounge. That looks quite
comfy – yes – and cosy. Yeah. Whiskey, please. Do you really fancy whiskey? Single mal, 18
years old. Do you fancy one? No, not now. Not now. Later. But there is the bar next
door actually.

Let me show you. So if Jörg really wanted a whiskey, he can
probably have one I'm sure. So you can even have a seat here. This is the bar area. Ring gong for service. That's Tess, the Yorkshire terrier. [Music] Good morning! I don't know if you can see
the rain but um, it's quite terrible outside. Actually really miserable. Do you know what
I want to do? Just stay in bed – yes – or sit next to a fireplace with a book in have
my hands and some really good tea. Yes. Oh that sounds like bliss because I'm actually
I'm grumpy now. Yeah. I'm really I'm like the Grumpy Cat today. Yeah but instead of
that we need to get home. Yes. And you know what? Yeah? I fell in love here.

Yeah, this
place is beautiful. Well, not only that. I love this place but I fell fell in love with
Tess the Yorkshire terrier. Yes, she's so nice and cute. I'd love to take her home with
us. She's such a cutie. And she's 10 years old. Yeah. I thought she would be quite young.
Yeah, she looks like a puppy. Yes, she's so sweet. We hope you like the video. We absolutely
enjoyed this place – yeah, it's a really really nice and beautiful place to stay. Yeah, quintessentially
English – yes – with great hosts. And yeah. Yeah, Sheila and Bruce yeah, have done a great
job – yes – refurbishing this house – yes – and making these rooms so nice and cosy.
I mean they said that it's a work in progress.

Every house is but this probably especially
because it's so big so well, it's a lot of work – yeah – but yeah, so far they've done
a great job. And if you're in the area we can really recommend it. So thank you so much
for watching. As always we'll see you again very soon – yeah – so until next time. Bye.
Bye bye. Bye..
