It’s probably true to say that most of us don’t consider mum as often as we should. She’s there for the good – and bad – in our lives, but we don’t see any other side of her very often.  And we only get one mum, so maybe it’s time yours got a break – and a night away at a hotel might just be the perfect tonic as a thank you for everything she does. After all, she’s probably the one who cooks and cleans and looks after the grandchildren – and you, too, especially when things go wrong. And it’s generally a thankless task. So a night in a hotel could be just what mum needs for her to feel loved again.

Make her feel extra special. Leave the chores and the routine behind for once and have some fun with your mum! And what better way to do so than with a relaxing girls night in a luxury hotel?

It’s worth doing a little planning before you take your mum away to make sure your break runs smoothly. Does she have any special dietary needs? Is she fully mobile or does she struggle with lots of stairs? When you make your reservation it’s worth asking for a ground floor room if this is the case to make life easier for you both.

If you opt for a hotel with a Spa you’ll both be able to indulge in some much-deserved pampering. Maybe you could surpise your mum with her favourite beauty treatment? You’d need to make sure the hotel you choose offers the treatment you want and it would be a good idea to book it when you make your initial reservation to make sure it’s available.

Or maybe your mum’s never visited a spa before. In which case you could maybe arrange for some taster sessions to give her an idea of what it’s all about. Many hotels offer a little selection for the first timer. Or perhaps a manicure would fit the bill, as a thank you for all those years of washing up. Then again, a massage might hit the spot, easing those sore back muscles after all those years of pushing the grandchildren in their prams up and down all those hills? Either way, there’s no reason why you too can’t lie back, close your eyes and indulge in a spot of rest and relaxation at the same time, knowing that someone else is chasing after the kids at home and taking the dog for a walk.

It’s worth planning your girls night in with your mum’s happiness and wellbeing in mind. If she likes to dress up, but doesn’t get the opportunity very often, you could arrange for dinner in the restaurant, making sure she’s packed her best dress and sparkly shoes – in which case you’d be wise to pick a hotel with a more formal restaurant and a reputation for fine food.

Your girls night in with mum could be a total revelation. You might find out things about her you didn’t know before – and she you! With no distractions it’s a great opportunity to have some proper mum daughter time and you might even go home much closer than when you arrived.
